Dengue
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes, and while mild dengue can be managed at home, severe dengue is a medical emergency. Always consult a doctor if symptoms worsen.
✅ Home Treatment for Mild Dengue
Focus on hydration, symptom relief, and monitoring.
1. Fluids – Most Important
Dengue can cause severe dehydration. Encourage:
ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) – best choice.
Coconut water
Fruit juices (avoid very sweet or citrusy juices)
Plain water
Soups and broths
> 🚫 Avoid caffeinated drinks like tea or coffee.
---
2. Fever and Pain Relief
Use Paracetamol (acetaminophen) every 6–8 hours if needed for fever or body pain.
✅ Safe for dengue
❌ Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin, or diclofenac – these increase bleeding risk.
---
3. Nutrition
Eat soft, easy-to-digest food.
Include:
Fruits (papaya, banana, apple)
Vegetables, rice, lentils
Papaya leaf juice (no strong evidence, but some people use it)
1–2 tablespoons of fresh juice (after consultation with a doctor)
---
4. Rest
Complete bed rest is essential.
Avoid physical activity to reduce bleeding risk (dengue lowers platelet count).
5.Monitor for Warning Signs
If any of the following appear, go to the hospital immediately:
Persistent vomiting
Severe abdominal pain
Bleeding gums, nose, or in urine/stool
Drowsiness or irritability
Difficulty breathing
Cold hands and feet
Sudden drop in fever (may signal severe dengue)
---
❗ When to Seek Medical Help
Platelet count dropping below 100,000
Signs of bleeding
No improvement after 3–5 days
Any warning sign (listed above)
